Busy 1st Graders!

Reading!
We have been continuing to grow as readers! We have added on to our list of strategies to use when we come to tricky parts in our reading! I will be assessing students this week to see what growth we have made in the last few months! I can't wait to see the results!

Thank-you for helping grow your child's responsibility in bringing their book bag back each day! Reading for at least 23 minutes each night is having a huge impact on the children's reading!

Writing!
We are writing Small Moment stories and looking at famous mentor authors to see what they do successfully! It has amazed me to see how far our writers have come from the beginning of the year! They are adding more and more details and even attempting to add dialogue into their stories! Yay writers!

Math!
In math, we have been focusing on place value and how a number is made with ones and tens. For example the number 37 is made of 7 ones and 3 tens! We are also continuing to build our sense of numbers and how they relate to one another!

We have spent our afternoons in math stations and have been able to try out the OSMO! This is an activity that we use with an I-Pad to build shapes and words. The kids love it and it has really helped them to build their problem solving skills!

Imagination!
A couple of weeks ago I started giving students a random shape to create a picture out of! My hope is that they will use their imagination to create a unique picture! I love looking at what they come up with! Here are a few examples!

Extra Recess!
We earned an extra recess for getting 20 class star slips! We earn a class star slip for showing STAR behavior! We are working towards ours next 20!
